Question

How to burn MP4 format to DVD.

Asked by: gregrego

I have spent a few hours trying to get some PSP movies to burn to a dvd. Here's what I have done so far:

1. Opened the MP4 file in Quicktime Pro and saved them as .MOV (Saved not Exported)
2. Created the DVD menus and imported the movie file into showbiz DVD (Came with HP burner)
3. Burned the DVD
4. Tested the DVD, Video plays, very nice quality, BUT no Audio... even though there was audio in the .mov file before i burned it.

Is there another way to burn a .mov to dvd where it will keep its audio stream?

what may have caused me to lose the audio during the transcoding process?

If I was you I would try divxtodvd :

http://www.vso-software.fr/divxtodvd/divxtodvd2.htm

It supports a lot of formats including mov and it converts them to a dvd structure and you can also use it to burn the movie to a dvd. However that option wont let you have menus on your dvd , so you can cancel it once it has finished making sure that in the settings you have it un checked so that it does not delete the converted files once it has finished.

I hope this helps :)

Well, this program did seem promising, but it puts a massive, and very distracting advertisement in the top black bar of the widescreen video. I let it go to see if it would at least do a good job converting, but after 10 minutes, the progress bar had not moved and was still decoding frame 0. Im running a very fast system (amd 64 3400+ w/ 1024 ddr ram, sata hd) so there is no reason for it to take any longer than an hour to convert all of the files.

It must be that the app is 32 bit and something to do with the AMD 64 bit cos I have 1024 mb ddr ram, my hard drives are slightly slower cos they are IDE 7200 RPM but I have an Intel P4 prescott 3 ghz and it worked fine for me and I didnt get adds.

What about this :

http://nickyguides.digital-digest.com/mov2avi.htm

I hope this helps out some what, once it is in an avi or mpeg format that would help some what with converting it into a dvd structure.

Once you have got it in mpeg or avi, might be an idea to try and convert it to mpeg 2 or something simmiliar if you can cos then you can use TMPGenc as per this site which has tutorials for numerous things :

http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/

More specifically these sites :

http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/tmpgenc_dvd_author_guide.cfm

and

http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/advanced_tmpgenc_dvd_author_guide.cfm

Other then that :

There is this convert site on video help :

http://www.videohelp.com/convert#4;62

And I got the site below from the video help site :

http://www.dvd-guides.com/content/view/58/59/

www.doom9.org is a very good site for video tutorials, utilitys etc just like video help :)

Trying Rad Tools, From Digital Digest

Converting .Mov to AVI using Divx 6.0 Codec
Says it will take 20 minutes.

by: gregregoPosted on 2005-08-09 at 01:18:28ID: 14630635

Worked.
I used Rad Video Tools - Blink Converter to convert the .mov to .avi
Using Divx 6.0 Codec (newest) at home theater quality settings.
Inserted the AVI into my dvd menu that i made earlier using Showbiz DVD and re burned the dvd.
The movie now works perfect and supports surround sound, also runs flawlessly in an Un-Modified Playstation 2.

Media: Memorex DVD+R 8x Single Layer
Burner: HP DVD Writer 630c

I was very impressed with the convertor, the codec gave me the options to preview and see all of the vital statistics about the conversion, watching bar graphs ( i had no clue what they were showing ) shows the bitrate, and the fps live, and you can watch the movie while it converts it, but no audio. Very quick process and even switched to normal priority <95 CPU i was still able to hit the net, and msn without any degredation to the video / audio quality.

Thanks for the help Geco, any other questions you can email me at greg@gregrego.com
