Question

Convert QuickTime Clips and Movies to Windows Media Player format etc.

Asked by: e45rdxzs

I have several QuickTime Clips and Movies, and I have QuickTime 7.1 for Windows XP, and I am not thrilled with the way it works compared to W/Media Player.   In fact it does nothing other than play the movie, and it’s slow at that; when trying to navigate in the movie.   QuickTime Says to upgrade to QuickTime 7 Pro for Windows $ 30, but I have heard every thing from it sucks to its good.   What do you think?

All I really what to do is convert QTime Movies to W/Media Player format if it will function properly when converted to W/Media Player format.  What do you think, and is there another way to make this conversion without using Q/Time Pro?

Thanks, Phil

I agree with you on this one, Quicktime is not an amazing product, but it does its job.
If you're not thrilled with Quicktime, Pro will not throw up much excitement either.
There are alternatives to using Quicktime Pro to convert between video formats.

For example:
To convert your .mov video files into .wmv you can use the following convertor:

ALO Video Converter 1.6
http://www.download.com/ALO-Video-Converter/3000-2194_4-10566330.html?tag=lst-0-7

ALO Video Converter is a simple and easy-to-use converting AVI, MPEG, MPG, DAT, RM, RAM, RMVB, MOV, ASF, WMV to AVI, MPEG, RM, WMV. PAL/NTSC conversion and vice versa are available. It can handle and convert between the following formats: AVI, MPEG, RM, MOV, ASF, WMV. Full Drag and Drop is supported. The app features Fast conversion speed: video format conversion is performed directly without any temporary files, and thus enables high converting speed and economy of hard disk resource. Batch video files conversion is supported.

Good luck!

Is there any reason to modify the format, QT can play in other media player just making life easier for you.
Try playing them in Media player classic.
the best thing about this player is the range of formats it supports. It’ll play just about anything you throw at it, whether it’s an MP3, an Ogg, a WMA, even a QuickTime file. And with Real Alternative (which Media Player Classic is bundled with), you can add RealMedia files to that list, negating the need for RealOne Player, which has to be enough reason to download it in itself.

All you need is ffdshow to make sure all the necessary codecs are installed and it can play all formats.

Media Player Classic was the best answer.  Strange thing, it does not show up as a program anywhere, but I put a shortcut to it in my MS Office SC Bar.   Do you know if it can be connected to a play list?  All the Video Converters had problems.  I even found some others on the Web with the problems.  It looks like Apple is still a lemon.   Thanks Phil

Yes i did the same it should be in your programfiles. There is a few different types of installers for media player classic.
Media Player Classic 6.4.9.0 is the version I gave?

its just drag and drop you can get it to remember what you played last by opening the options.
It also has the option to add to favourites which is a form of play list.
Open media player go to file open file navigate to your choices  once they are in the playlist add to favouites.
So you just keep doing this music movies etc.
Go to help command line switches.
A few other comments about play lists.

Apple Computer developed the QuickTime file format to create, edit, publish, and view multimedia files. QuickTime format can contain video, animation, graphics, 3D and virtual reality (VR) content. Only QuickTime files version 2.0 or earlier can be played in Windows Media Player. Later versions of QuickTime require the proprietary Apple QuickTime Player.

there is also Ace DivX Player - Free Divx Player I find it okay not as simple to use a media player classic but if you want playlists.

Ace DivX Player is the most convenient and handy divx player, it focus on play and manager your local media files: Divx, Mpeg, Mpv, Mpa, Mp3, Mp4, Avi, Asf, CDA(Audio-CD), DAT(Video-CD) etc.
Ace DivX Player is the best Windows Media Player replacement program, what Ace DivX Player offers you is what a handy movie and music player really should does - Powerful Playlist, Freely Resize movie window and Full-Screen mode with Onscreen Controls.

by: MeretePosted on 2006-08-22 at 06:03:41ID: 17363338

hmm .mov I shall test it. As I have plenty of them.
including mov.mod from my camcorder.
And nope it does support .mov but plays mov.mod.
Throw that away then.
Movies made from a camcorder I have mov.mod and they play fine too.

I thought your emphasis was play lists lol so i thought I'd offer that one wasnt sure if you were happy with media player classic.
I still prefer the media player classic it wins on all counts accept I guess the play list ..

I have not used QT alternative for play lists.
QuickTime Alternative will allow you to play QuickTime files (.mov, .qt and other extensions) without having to install the official QuickTime Player. It also supports QuickTime content that is embedded in webpages.

I'm sorry; I have just become too busy to work with my computer.   Media Player Classic helped, but it was not the whole solution.    I have tried a few programs to convert .mov to .wmv, but so far they all have problems.    I have recently found that it is better to covert to .MPEG, which I was working on.    Now I have found that it would be best to covert to .MPG4, which I have not had time to work on.   Merete has been very helpful, and I could give that person credit for this question, but I would like to keep the thread going until I have a solution.    One of the other things I do not like about Quick Time, when used in a PC, is that Windows will not put a thumbnail on the .MOV file.   That brings up another question; how do you make windows assign a frame, other than the first frame of a video, as the thumbnail?   I think I have seen somewhere that that it is possible.

Phil

by: MeretePosted on 2006-09-18 at 17:24:14ID: 17548180

Hi Phil I tried different methods of creating a thumbnail view of my .mov files and QT will not release its grip on it unless i simply uninstall QT.

In my folder I have several different formats including avi mpeg and .Mov when I select  view thumbnails the mpeg and avi preview .mov don't they just retain the QT icon.

Firstly to explain my idea
in my pictures the folder is just a straight folder unless you have some themes installed.. if I want to create an image for my folder cover I take a photo lets say tree.jpeg
and rename it folder.jpeg
when I close my pictures the folder will now reflect that picture in the actual folder front.. try it out.
So anyway that is my line of thinking to use this kind of principal and create a snapshot of the movie title  and save that as a thumbnail.

Play the movie in media player classic pause it and then take a snapshot using the print screen of the segment of the movie you wish as a thumbnail.
open paintshop pro if you have it, and paste the snapshot, enlarge the frame then using the selection tool select the exact perimeter of the actual snap only then using edit cut ( the center will dissappear) then edit again this time paste as new image from the list the piece will now appear as a small image then go to file and save as jpeg. give it name. save to your movie folder where the actual movie is, it will now appear as a thumbnail.

I searched around and did manage to find another suggestion maybe you coudl try it doesnt look as easy as mine though.

Hi Merete,    OK, I've got the capture, and I've croped it and saved it to the folder that the video is in.   Now I can not find a way to make it the thunbnail for the video.  I have found a Thumbnail refesh line in the pull down menu for the video, but it just refeshes to the old thumbnail.    Phil

by: MeretePosted on 2006-09-18 at 21:56:30ID: 17549223

Hi Phil not sure I understand what you have  done when you say capture or maybe your not sure of what I am saying.
You have a capture? I am referring to screenshot or snapshot.
If you play the QT movie in media player classic, it plays qt movies pause the movie so you can snapshot it. The whole desktop including the media player classic will be in the snapshot then paste it into paint and using the selection tool you cut out the part that contains only the movie piece then save as jpeg.
Would like me to take some screenshots of what I am referring.
Do these short movies have a title name?

Or are you referring to the link I supplied?

by: MeretePosted on 2006-09-18 at 22:12:43ID: 17549249

As far as I understand is not possible to use the  thumbnail view of QT .MOV formats. They just take on the QT icon
unless you buy a program that will enable this feature.
However if you are savvy with the regestry here maybe a tip that can force windows
Symptom
When you click on a Video file, the thumbnail image may not be generated in the Common Tasks pane, or while in Thumbnail folder view. This happens if the Video thumbnail handler which comes with XP by default, is not present in the registry.

If you still want to convert it windows media format:

What do you mean "All the Video Converters had problems" ?

I just finished converting a .mov trailer to .wmv using my preferred video converter:
WinAvi Video Converter(http://www.winavi.com/en/video-converter/video-converter.htm)

The video came out perfect.

by: e45rdxzsPosted on 2006-09-19 at 10:36:31ID: 17553892

Warpser,   The programs I've tried have had several problems; to slow, the videos I convert are usualy 50 to 150 Mg; they lost resaluion; they came out 4 : 4 instead of 4 : 6 etc.    I'll try the one you suggested, and see what hapens.   Thanks,   Phil

by: warpserPosted on 2006-09-19 at 10:51:33ID: 17554045

Hmmmm... I see. Well to prevent that try this:

- Too Slow = Mabey, It might have something to do with the video, because of format of source video. I just notice some converts are a bit slower than others for me.
- Size = Make sure you select the proper profile that fits your needs.
Small file size = Lower Resolution
Large files size = Higher Resoltuion
- .WMV codec is mainly used to achieve smallest file size possible, while trying to it's best to retain the quality.
- 4:4, 4:6 = You should be able to select it in the options.

To find these options select "Advanced" after you select the video. Although, for the trial i'm not sure what features are restricted, as I have the full version.

I just tried to download Winav, but the link is broken; I informed them.   If the program does what it says, it will be great.    However they all say that they will do great things and many of their claims do not work.    Phil

Hmmm.. well as long as your video file is good. It should work.
I use this program for All my converting needs so I know from experience it works well. I too have tried other programs, but this program is best of all in my opinion and have been using it for a long time now. Just this week, i used it to convert 2 videos to DVD, and a few others to .wmv for internet video.

Hmmmm are link seems good to me:

Hi Merete,    OK, I've got the capture,----- Sorry, what I mean here is that I have the “Screen Shot”.

and I've cropped it----- And I’ve cropped out the junk.

and saved it to the folder that the video is in.   I think this speaks for itself.

Now I can not find a way to make it ---- The saved snapshot. ---- the thumbnail for the video.  I have found a Thumbnail refresh line in the pull down menu for the video, but it just refreshes to the old thumbnail. ---- This is my problem ----   Phil

This thread is getting pretty long, however interesting, so I need to clarify some things here.    This is not an effort to put a thumbnail on a QT .mov file.    This is an effort to change the Windows selected thumbnail on a .wmv or .mpg file etc.     Windows selects the first frame of a video file for the thumbnail, and many times that is a plank, or a image that is not indicative of the video.   That is what I need to change.   I remember somewhere that there was a way to change the thumbnail image to, say, the 15th frame; that would work for me, or any other way that I could change the thumbnail selected by Windows.

When I find a satisfactory program to convert my QT files to, ---- I’m really thinking that MPG4 would be the best way to go now, --- I will change all my QT files to Windows formats.    The latest Popular Photography is toting MPG4 as the way to go because; it uses about 1/4th the memory as all other formats; with the same quality; says PP.   So I’m buying a new camera that uses MPG4.   As you can see the deeper we dig into this subject the better it gets.

I hope that’s clearer than mud.     Phil

What version of paint do you have?
I use paintshop pro 6
What did you use to edit the screenshot?

Sounds like you want two solutions, one how to change the thumbnail view to another frame away from the default one in mpeg and avi only of course. Unless you would like to buy a special program that may support forcing .MOV and >WMV files to thumbnail.

And how to convert QT to mpeg4.
You are aware that .MOV and .WMV will not display in thumbnail views.

I had hoped the snapshot edit saved as jpeg would suffice for a thumbnail to represent> .MOV and > .WMV files.
One idea too, windows is funny about the selection of folder options, each different folder has different options, in ""my pictures"" you have thumbnails and filmstrip.
But if you look in just  ""my documents"" its only thumbnails.
Pretty much only My Pictures offers the filmstrip.

Thanks phil doesnt matter the lengthy posts thats what we do :)
cover it all until we reach hopefully a successful solution.
The more details the better.
What version of paint do you have?
I use paintshop pro 6
What did you use to edit the screenshot?
-------------------------------------------------------
1.  I used Paint 5.1 in Windows XP Pro.     I ordinarily use Adobe Elements, but I didn’t need it for this.  Paint easily cropped, resized and saved as .jpg.
-------------------------------------------------------

Sounds like you want two solutions, one how to change the thumbnail view to another frame away from the default one in mpeg and avi only of course. Unless you would like to buy a special program that may support forcing .MOV and >WMV files to thumbnail.
-------------------------------------------------------
2.  My XP Pro, in Explorer thumbnail view, puts the image of the first frame on all Videos or Clips or Movies files as a thumbnail; except QT .mov files.   The great majority of my video files are .WMV and .mpeg.   At this point and on this subject, I would just like to have the ability to change the thumbnail image on Windows base video files.
-------------------------------------------------------
And how to convert QT to mpeg4.

3.  Correct.
-------------------------------------------------------
You are aware that .MOV and .WMV will not display in thumbnail views.
---------------------------------------------------------
4.  As above, I have a first frame thumbnail on my .wmv files.
---------------------------------------------------------

I had hoped the snapshot edit saved as jpeg would suffice for a thumbnail to represent> .MOV and > .WMV files.

But if you look in just  ""my documents"" its only thumbnails.
Pretty much only My Pictures offers the filmstrip.
-----------------------------------------------------------
5.  I am primarily concerned about thumbnails in folders that I have created in Explorer.   Sometimes Filmstrip is the default, but I just change it to Thumbnail view.  It seems that Filmstrip is used when the file is small.  I am able to get thumbnails in all folders including most dialog boxes.

That is what I need to change.<< mpeg and avi already have the thumbnail view so its to work out how to change the default thumbnail being used.
------------------------------------------------------
7.  Correct.
------------------------------------------------------
how did you go with this link>>
CHANGING YOUR DEFAULT MOVIE THUMBNAIL
http://gallery.menalto.com/wiki/Changing_Movie_Thumbnails_Low_Tech_NOT_ffmpeg_
---------------------------------------------------------
8.  I tried working with what he suggested, but I still could not connect the image as a new video thumbnail (probable my problem following his instructions).   However, I had no trouble putting an image on a folder, but that’s not what I want to do; it doesn’t solve the problem.
------------------------------------------------------------

 you say>>
OK, I've got the capture,--Sorry, what I mean here is that I have the “Screen Shot”.
and I've cropped it----- And I’ve cropped out the junk.
and saved it to the folder that the video is in.   I think this speaks for itself.<< did you save it as a jpeg?
-------------------------------------------------------------
9.  Yes.
---------------------------------------------------------------
did you manage to snapshot lets say the 15th frame in the .MOV playing it in media player classic   copy to paint then edit so that only the actual picture is now there then go to file >>save as jpeg..jpeg this will show as a thumbnail when you select view from the top of your folder View> thumbnails?
-----------------------------------------------------------------
10.  Yes, I can capture an image from a .mov file, and edit it, but I’m not concerned at this point with .mov files.  If I can do the above with Windows based files; then when I convert QTs to Widows files it will take care of it’s self.     And I have no problem putting a thumbnail on a folder.
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Now I can not find a way to make it ---- The saved snapshot. ---- the thumbnail for the video,<<< bit confusing here.. If you saved the final edited picture as jpeg it will automatically appear in that folder as thumbnail image when viewing in thumbnails.  In paint>>Go to file top left of paint >>FILE>>and save as..jpeg
------------------------------------------------------------------
11.  This is very basic, and I have done this as stated, but that does not replace the existing thumbnail on the .mpeg etc files.  Again, I can put a new image on the folder, but not on the .mpeg file its self.   Now I’m sure there is a way to do it, but I have not found it, yet.   I have not found a way to put a .jpg image into .mpeg etc file, and it seems to me that that would be impossible.   However I have tried it, and I can’t make it work.

12 A. I have no problem viewing Windows based videos, and I have no problem viewing .mov file; your suggestion to use Win Media Classic helped with this.   QT is a Mac based format and they do not work will in Windows for many reasons, so I am working on converting them to Windows based formats.   When this is successful they work fine.  The only problem here is to fine a program that will do this well; there is progress here.  I have tried about four programs to do this, but I have not found one that I like; I’ve come close.

12 B.  I need to be able to change the thumbnail on Windows based videos to other than Windows selection of the first frame.   Here I have made no progress, but I’m sure there is a way to do this; I’m just not getting it.   If there is a program that will do this; I will get it.  In fact, I have seen videos where the last frame was the thumbnail; not that I would what to do that.

I do try to keep it simple and brief.

Me too.   Phil

Hi phil, okay that was a great read, so if I understand you, you have some QT movies in  windows MAc format and wish to convert them to windows mpeg4 or windows supporting formats?
You may have to reconsider buying QT 7.
its not that expensive, personally I dont use QT but will not hesitate to pay 30 dollars for something I really need and use often.
There is QT alternative..
http://www.codecguide.com/about_qt.htm

QuickTime Viewer & Professional
QuickTime Viewer and QuickTime Professional are the same!

The free QuickTime Viewer can be downloaded from quicktime.com - just buy a key number to convert the viewer into QuickTime Professional. Not surprisingly, QuickTime Professional has many aces up its sleeve. It can join movies, save QuickTime movies to AVI or MPEG, change the QuickTime codec from Sorenson to Cinepak and perform many more tricks. At just US$ 29.95, QuickTime Professional is a great steal.
PowerPoint & QuickTime
http://www.indezine.com/products/powerpoint/ppquicktime2.html

it seems 29.95 is the standard price.
MOV Converters not free either
http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Best/_mov-to-wmv-mac.html.
Xilisoft MOV Converter is a powerful, easy to use MOV conversion tool which can convert QuickTime MOV to MPEG, MOV to WMV, MOV to AVI, etc.
http://www.xilisoft.com/mov-converter.html

I think your going to have pay somewhere to convert these movies.
I have lots of ways to convert movies but it still costs money.
if you have  2 cards as I have, one nvidia with tv out, and also a video capture card, you can play movies on the computer using media player classic to tv and record from computer to dvd cd using a dvd digital recorder. these have a hard drive and can record whatever you play on the tv straight to dvd.

There is desktop recorders that can record but the quality is just not the same of course then you would have to convert it to dvdvideo.
I think we have covered about all I can think of.
Maybe some other EE have experience with MAC windows.
It is a tricky situation as you have a windows format that is not compatible with each other.

I dont know if it is possible for Nero to convert them for you, I have just dropping any windowsxp format movies onto a dvd .. Opened Nero and it  will convert it to whatever I have set the outcome. If I drop an avi to a dvd it will convert it dvd for me.
Best of luck with this if I do come across any ideas while your post is still open will post it immediately.
Regards M

It's been a while, but we appear to have gone full circle here...

What is the outstanding issue?
Are we now looking back to the original question to try and convert mov files into another format?

There was the program suggested in my original post, but I assume you did not get on with that?

There is also this free application:

Super:
http://www.erightsoft.net/Superdc.html

This is pretty much the only video converter you will ever need. It does everything.

Download from here:

Good luck!

Hello,

I have gotten busy lately, so I have not had as much time to spend on this as would like; I've been having dreams about graphic formats.   However I have been working on it as much as possible.   I have learned a lot, however I’ve been taking two steps forward and one step back.   The big problem is that these programs do not do all that they say they do, and the bigger problem is that do not say what else they do.  I’m in the process of fixing one of the problems now.    When I installed QTalt it would only play .MOVs in WMP Classic, but then WMP Classic would not operate correctly, or like it did.   And it also took out QT, so I could not open QT file normally, which was OK most of the time.  And it may have put a different icon on .WMV files with no Thumbnails on videos that were downloader after it was installed (which moved me backwards), and the .WMV files lost some of there characteristics.   That is almost fixed now.

I’ll talk to you later. Phil

PS, I found a good program to take screen shots, but when I E-mail them to see if the screen shot could be made the thumbnail for the video they sent me this:

Hello Philip,

If you're talking about the thumbnail within Windows Explorer then there is no way to do this currently. We may add this feature in the future.

Let me know if you have any further questions,
Mike Odom.

Sort of answers the question, however I have found that a program that I have says it can change the Thumbnail to other than the first frame, but it only seems to work on .AVI files.  The name of the program is “Thumbnails”.  It can change the thumbnail to a percentage into the video; like 10% in from the first frame; progress.

Hello again,

I feel like kissing the cat; I just solved the QT .MOV viewing Problem!!   When I goggled to find QT to download again; the search brought up a site for a new Real Player, and it said it could play QT .MOV formats (also Windows formats), I’d heard that before, but it works, and so far it works great; it even has play list; when I learn how to use them, and it’s free on a Goggle package downloader.  Now I just have the convert and thumbnail issue.

Again,

I built a new Pentium D 840 Dull Core computer about 9 months ago, and it’s working great.   I have 8 programs going right now, and everything is working; with no crashing!!    Well something has to go right.

Perfect question.  I have found out a lot lately, that needs sharing, and which has shifted where I am stuck.   I will continue later; right now my time is limited.

???

I'm confused, are you asking the question are answering it?

by: MeretePosted on 2006-09-27 at 08:20:20ID: 17611070

e45rdxzs  I provided you with some solutions as your problem is actually 3 sided:
and that was you can now play these movies in media player classic,
alternate solution two to view them in thumbnail view using 12th etc screen of movie instaed of the first>> was to use the snapshot.

you also wish to convert the Mac QT movies to suitable xp mpeg formats but not pay for any programs, I think it ends here.
you have actually all solutions unfortunately not what you wish to hear converting Mac to windows mpeg you'll have to consider paying for a program.

Otherwise not a bad effort to assist you on behalf of myself and EE dont you think?

Could you come back and close the post accept an answer and assisted answers.
please dont abandone the question as we spent our timely freely assisting you.

Yes, as for the .mov to .mpg conversion goes, there is the program I suggested in my post on the 21st September.
This is free! - You really should try it!

Suborder,

???

I'm confused, are you asking the question are answering it?

1.  NO , THIS IS NOT AN ANSWER TO YOUR QUESTION; IT IS JUST AN ADDRESS TO A SITE THAT I MENTIONED EARLER.   THE ANSWER TO YOUR QUISTION WILL BE LONG AND IT IS UPCOMING.

Merete   (Suborder) (Venabili)

e45rdxzs  I provided you with some solutions as your problem is actually 3 sided:
and that was you can now play these movies in media player classic,

2.  THIS WORKED WITH SOME SHORT COMINGS, AS WE DISCUSSED, BUT THE NEW REAL PLAYER WAS A PERFECT SOLUTION, WHICH MAKES CONVERTING QT .MOV ALMOST UNNESSESSARY.

alternate solution two to view them in thumbnail view using 12th etc screen of movie instead of the first>> was to use the snapshot.

3.  THIS IS NOT SOLVED; I THINK I HAVE A PROGRAM WRITER WORKING ON IT.    I FOUND A PROGRAM THAT TAKES PERFECT SNAPSHOTS, AS I’VE MENTIONED, IT’S CALLED FRAME-SHOTS: http://www.frame-shots.com/ ; HE SAYS IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO CHANGE THE THUMBNAIL IN EXPLORER VIEW, BUT I MAY HAVE HIM WORKING ON IT.    THERE IS A FREE TRIAL PERIOD FOR HIS SITE, AND IT’S ONLY $ 10 TO BUY IT.

you also wish to convert the Mac QT movies to suitable xp mpeg formats but not pay for any programs, I think it ends here.
you have actually all solutions unfortunately not what you wish to hear converting Mac to windows mpeg you'll have to consider paying for a program.

4. I HAVE TRIED ALL THE GRAPHIC CONVERTER PROGRAMS MENTIONED IN THIS STRING, AND OTHERS THAT I FOUND, SOME COSTING UP TO $99, BUT NONE OF THEM ARE SATISFACTORY.   HOWEVER FINDING REALPLAY VERSION 10.5 HAS ELIMINATED MOST OF MY NEED FOR CONVERTING VIDEO FORMATS; ACCEPT FOR CONVERTING MPEG4 OR MPG4 TO .AVI; THAT MY NEW CAMERA PRODUCES.

Otherwise not a bad effort to assist you on behalf of myself and EE dont you think?

5.  DEFINITELY!

Could you come back and close the post accept an answer and assisted answers.
Please don’t abandon the question as we spent our timely freely assisting you.

6.  I THINK I HAVE MENTIONED THIS; I WOULD LIKE TO GIVE CREDIT ON THIS, BUT WOULD LIKE TO KEEP THE STING GOING.   CAN I PASTE THE WHOLE, OR PART OF, THE WHOLE STRING INTO A NEW QUESTION?   THIS WHOLE EFFORT HAS BROUGHT SOME GREAT RESULTS, AND HAS FOUND SOME WHOLES IN WHAT IS AVAILABLE.

Regards merete

7.  THANKS,  PHIL

Hi Phil I dont have any more suggestions to offer at this point I donot fully understand waht else we can offer.

You can buy a program to convert the files from Mac to windows compatible QT. as shuboarder suggested.
Media player classic solved the playing issue in windows  which I suggested.
If you can play the movies okay now and donot wish to pay for the QT upgrade Then your problem is kind of solved.

Hi Phil,

My suggestion:

Close this question, then when you open a new question, you can always include a link back to this question for reference purposes:

Like Merete says this thread is pretty much exhausted!

Hello,

This was fine with me, I was looking for a way to do it anyway.    This has been a very long and interesting, you might say, chat.  The problems have not really been solved, because all solutions fell short of doing it properly, but most of the problems have been improved.   The problems are that the softwares did not do as advertised.  The one remaining issue was not been touched, and as suggested I will make another question out of it.   The issue is to have the ability to put a different thumbnail on a video other than the one that Windows "File" Explorer selects for the video.    In all my searches I have not found one program that does it successfully.  I found that I could do it with ShowBiz, but it took forever, and usually lockup before it finished, and if it finished it messed up the formatting.  Anyway, when I get some time I’ll get back to it.

Thanks Phil
