Hello,
This problem is extremely difficult. I have been unable to find even a suggestion as to what might be causing the issue. It relates to interacting with media such as avi's or mpeg's when I edit video for instance but it also corrupts audio editing as well.
When I edit video, blocky artifacts like green lines or white blocks appear in my image. At first I thought it was software-related to Premiere Pro but I reformatted my computer completely, and reinstalled with an earlier, completely different version and the same problem reproduced itself in a dozen different tapes from different sources. This leads me to believe it must be hardware-related. Occassionally, when I capture video, my computer gives me a momentary "blue screen of death" and restarts. I have a dmp file if there is a way I can send it. I think this dump file may be the key to finding out what is wrong; if only I knew how to read it!
So, okay, maybe it's only video editing. But it's not. When I play back DVD's, the same artifacts appear, albeit a lot less of them, but they are still there. When I edit with Cineform AVI's different kinds of artifacts appear, green "screens" of blocky color, sometimes purple, that completely destroy the image.
Also, when I mix music in Adobe Audition sometimes the music will cut out. The master level bar will max out and redline but no sound is coming out. When I "freeze" tracks the conditions worsens considerably. Oftentimes I can only play mixes with one or two effects because if I add more the music gets choppy and freezing the tracks to reduce CPU usage causes this problem to surface. Exporting audio using effects results in a file with no waveform information or a few clicks or pops, similar to what I hear when I add effects and try to play in realtime as described earlier.
My computer is an Dual-cure Dual AMD Opteron 275 with Tyan motherboard, Matrox APVe graphics card, 4 GB of Registered ECC RAM, one IDE hard drive 80gb with Windows XP on it and four SATA 250gb drives raided together in a RAID 5 configuration. No sound card. Maybe the RAID is causing this problem? But I have edited video solely from the IDE drive and the same artifacts appear, same goes for audio.
I know this is a difficult problem so whatever information you need, I will send ASAP.
