Asked by: rsdn

Hello,

I am using windows xp and recently I notice all the videos play in fast speed mode (1.4x). Play speed setting is "normal mode" in windows media player. Is there any other option I need to set some value for fps?

why not update to the latest version of WMP11
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/11/default.aspx

if you don't want to update for a specific reason, then please discard the above suggestion :)
also, do only videos play fast or the issue is same for audio files too?

Hi rsdn,

you should be ok with the settings you have there.
Can you think, was there anything you have done recently that could have caused this problem to come about? i.e. when was the last time this was working normally?

If you can recall a time when this was working, you might want to try a system restore point.

Start >> All Programs >> Accessories >> System Tools >> System Restore

The good thing about this is it is fully reversible, so if you restore to a previous point in time and it doesn't work, you can easily undo the changes.

Failing this, check your video card drivers are correct for your card (i.e. they haven't been changed accidently!)

You might also try an alternative player:

Media Player Classic:
www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_players/media_player_classic.cfm

Media Player Classic is an extremely light-weight media player for Windows. It looks just like the good-old Media Player v6.4, but has lots of nice extras!

VLC Media Player:
www.videolan.org/vlc/

VLC media player is a highly portable multimedia player for various audio and video formats (MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, mp3, ogg, ...) as well as DVDs, VCDs, and various streaming protocols.

Good luck!

>> SheharyaarSaahil: I cannot upgrade to latest version because the computer belongs to my cousin and he prefers version 9. Both the video and audio plays fast.

>> shuboarder: Recently I install a software called "VSO ConvertxDVD". I will inform you after trying all the options you mentioned.

rsdn, if other players play videos and audios fine, you can try to reinstall WMP which will fix any corruption in its settings which is causing the fast speed :)
