I have been consulting forums here and in other websites about users who have had a similar problem with Roxio Easy CD Creator 5, I have everything that's been suggested and it still won't work!
I used to have Windows 98 SE in my computer (I know, way old), and I just recently decided to update it to Windows 2000 Pro because the original mainboard's soundcard started to act up (too old, I guess) so I got a new sound card but it wouldn't work with Win 98, so I updated. After manyhorrible problems in attempting a regular "clean" update from Win 98 to Win 2000 Pro, I decided to reformat the boot drive and make a clean install. I have gotten most of the important software and hardware (peripherals) to work ok with Win 2000 Pro, but Roxio just won't cooperate.
I have all current patches for Windows 2000 Pro installed (from the Windows Update website); I have read that some users suggest that patch KB890047 may cause trouble, but that seems to be an update for Win XP, not 2000 Pro (I know that both systems basically share the same kernel, but this update apparently applies only to XP), and it is not listed in the updates installed in my system.
What have I done in attempting to solve my problem?
- When I first realized what was going on, I consulted some web sites to know what to do, and after that, I did what most sites seem to recommend (even Microsoft's
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/297059/EN-US/ ), so I uninstalled the Easy CD Creator 5 basic using Add / Remove Programs from Control Panel.
- Then, I used Roxizap.
- Then, I rebooted
- Then, I installed Easy CD Creator 5 from the CD and did not reboot
- Then, I installed the driver update 5.3.5.10 basic from the Roxio website
- Then, I rebooted
- Then, while Windows was booting, I got the blue (stop) screen telling me there was a problem with the CD4_2K.sys file, and that I had to make sure I had intalled any recent software correctly.
- Then, I booted my computer in Safe Mode and tried to remove the Easy CD Creator using Add / Remove Programs to no avail (Windows Installer doesn't seem to work in Safe Mode, even after unsuccesfully trying to start it manually using services.msc), a step in which I got stuck for about 3 days without knowing what to do and tragically considering reformatting the boot drive once again. However, I decided to try to use Roxizap in Safe Mode and it worked, so the blue screen message went away but now I am back to point zero.
- Roxizap apparently removed any Windows Media version that may have been in my updated Win 2000 Pro system after using Windows Update (and installing all recommended updates and patches); it also apparently removed the latest version of the Internet Explorer, because these both disappeared and now I have only the very basic versions. I have tried installing the Easy CD Creator even without those 2 updated and it hasn't worked (blue screen and CD4_2K.sys file message come up).
- I have tried installing from CD, then rebooting (which is not recommended), then installing the 5.3.5.10 update but it hasn't worked (blue screen and CD4_2K.sys message come up).
I am really going crazy... I know that the steps I have followed have worked for some, but they just don't seem to want to work for me, and I just don't know what to do. Please, help me!!
