I've been Googling this one for ages and read some other similar posts here and the resolutions to them - but as usual my case seems unique.
I recently purchased Sony HDR-SR11 High-Def digital camcorder and installed Sony Picture Motion Browser (PMB) software provided with the camcorder. This software did a complete scan of all existing MPG files (even short MPG files copied to my hard drive from Sony Cybershot) seems to have created accompanying .modd and .moff files.
Around the same time I purchased MAGIX MOVIE EDIT PRO + 14 digital video editing software. So not sure if my problems with WMP can be tracked to the Sony PMB software or the MAGIX MEP+14 software. My participation in other posts has led me to download the G-Spot software and the VLC player. Both of these players ARE able to play the "problematic" MPGs - but alas WMP is still crippled. I can also view the MPGs in the Sony PMB software as well. I did activate an MPEG-2 codec using the MAGIX MEP+14 program so that I could directly import the .m2ts files from the Sony camcording into the MAGIC MEP software (and subsequently directly edit). But not sure if this is when the issue with WMP came on the scene or not.
I don't seem to (always) get an error message when attempting to play one of the MPGs (I am testing with the short low res MPGs that are on my harddrive from Sony Cybershot that used to play fine in WMP). What I see is the first frame of the video - but it doesn't play. I can move the slider bar and advance through the video - which repositions the video to the correct position (new frame is shown at new position) - but still doesn't play.
From what I have been reading - I should just walk away from WMP11 - but I am like a dog with a bone on this one - its just a problem that is dying to be solved.
Sorry to be so long winded - but I realize sometimes it helps to know the whole story (some names have been changed to protect the innocent :) )
