All my video games play without a problem, even older ones.
No, I haven't tried that yet, but i might give it a try
Main Topics
Browse All TopicsWell, ever since I bought my computer, I've been having a problem; while I'm watching a video (this happens on almost every video, on all my media players) every now and then it gets corrupted while playing (the video file is fine, it's just the playback that gets corrupted) and if i try to go to full screen, close the player, resize the window,... my computer freezes and i have to reset my computer. This problem while corrupting the video playback, it also does the same thing to my cursor (Vista default cursor).
I've reformatted my disk many times and installed many different Graphics Card drivers, so I don't think that it's a driver problem. The only constant thing I've been doing after formatting, is installing Windows Vista x64 and some codecs that might not be compatible with it (K-Lite Mega Codec Pack, custom installation) and of course the hardware.
I attached screenshots of a video file while it's corrupted and when it's not, so that you can approx. see what it does. Jou cansee that it's just the video that get corrupted at playback, because the subtitles are undamaged (loaded from a file, not coded)
P.S.
I'm new here, and would like to give more points for the answer, but at the moment, it is all I have.

Beeing in the business for some time now, i've seen this problem (not exactly similar..) in various ways. Even i had a similar problem wich started by not having ffdshow installed.
I also see u use an external player. im not familiar with kmplayer so ill try to give an common option you can try.
You say the problem keeps coming back every time you reinstall windows. and at the same time you install your "codec pack". I would try to play the movie using just windows media player and a codec pack downloadable from: "http://www.cccp-project.n
is it the same movie that hangs or do all movies freeze up?
what type of video are you playing? wmv, avi (divx), VOB (dvd) this might narrow it down...
Hope this helps
I think rikdol is thinking in the right direction.
I always use VLC Player
It supports subtitles and plays almost every video (including mkv)
Try perhaps formatting and installing VLC player again and stop with using the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack.
Does the file play OK on another machine?
The subtitles are a distraction. If they are being pulled from a separate file they will display fine even if the decoding of the video isn't working (they are displayed in a separate layer over the video playback) so unless they are part of the video image don't use them as a guide.
This happens with all media players I use (WMP, Media Player Classic, The KMPlayer, Winamp,...).
It happens at random, If the problem occurs while I'm watching a file an I restart my computer, it won't happen at the same place as it did before.
It has happened on at least 2 different video codecs, AVC and Xvid.
Yes, the file is OK, it works perfectlyon other machines.
OK this is going to sound a little weird but can you reboot into Safe Mode (the one without networking) and launch your video clip as normal?
I'm afraid you won't get sound but if you can watch it though to see if you get the same effect...
THe idea behind this is we already know the file is OK because it plays on another machine. It happens randomly though the file and this is most likely to be because something else is taking your system's resources. Safe Mode will remove most of the background resources and disconnecting from the Net will prevent any updates running.
Let's see what happens ...
I'm sorry if i explained badly, but what I meant was, that sometimes, the error won't occur even if I play the whole file multiple times over. It pops up for no reason with no apparent preference to player, file, codec, time,...
So unfortunately, I can't test it because it happens randomly and sometimes days apart.
OK no problem - this is one of the joys of not solving problems face-to-face :)
Working on the basis that it is to do with background processes have you done an up-to-date scan for malware?
(Recommend Malwarebytes if you don't already use it) Also, with the exception of your antivirus - try switchnig off background updates for everything for a few days.
OK will wait to hear.
BTW Malwarebytes will scan normally on a 64-bit install you just won't get real-time protection from it (which you don't with the free version anyway) The paranoid bit of MASQUERAID has S&D (mainly for Teatimer) and Malwarebytes installed and I run MWB maybe once a month and it does sometime pick up things that S&D doesn't.
If you have multicore try setting the affinity for your player to a single core and upping its priority.
My graphics card is MSI N9600GT-T2D512-OC V127 (Red one)
I doubt I have any heat problems, because my case is always very cool (6 14cm fans)
It's definitly not a socket connection problem, because I dissassemble the case and clean every component during every reformat and I always check if the HW is properly connected.
It is possible that it a loose chip is causing it, but I don't know of any other way t ocheck for that other than to manually check every chip in my PC :s
Yes, it also appears when I play the video on a connected TV.
Link to graphics card site:
If drivers are right and display is bad on TV and Monitor then most likely a PCB level problem
Did you check the soldering on the PCB?
MSI's QC - not so good for a long time.
Have you reseated the actual video card?
You need to check your video RAM.
I know utilities exist to do that but I haven't had to do it in so long I don't remember what they are.

Do you have windows search 4 installed? Check your add remove programs. If so try disabling it in services unless you really need it. (its a bugger cpu hd hog at times).
It sound like you have something running in the background that is causing the problem. Something is stealing CPU time and effecting the video playback.
Try disabling any items you don't need in your boot start up too.
memtest or memtest86 for RAM.
None better that I know of and it's free.
I've never seen a CPU test that tests all functions of the various common CPUs.
I'm not even sure that's possible through software without a program the size of Windows.

There are a number that are good at what they do but they don't do everything.
I don't bother with them so I'll let the other experts chime in on the attributes of those.
.
Time for an update:
I disabled all updates for over 2 days and the problem still occurs.
It's not RAM, because I switched my sticks with my brothers' and problem still occured.
I'm still testing other possible solutions and will update if/when a solution works.
If anyone has any more ideas, I would love hearing them.
I think what people here are saying about RAM is not so much the computer ram but the video card ram, you may want to stress the card by running a bench mark program again and again to see if the graphics artifact.
If they do it does indeed seem to be a problem with the graphic chips on the graphics card (you need to replace card) or if it just stops working it could as you have pointed out be an over heating problem or lack of power to the graphics card.
Video Benchmark software (free one).

Do you have any problems if you are playing a game for example, or something that loads your video card.
The only relation i see to all your problems is the video card actually, have you tried putting another one in (to test) or to remove him and test your video again?
