The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Windows Media Player 11 Not Installed Properly

Asked by gsmalleus in Windows XP Operating System, General Multi-Media Software, Windows Media Player

I signed up for Netflix today.  When I tried to watch a streaming movie, I got the following error message:

=============
Windows Media Player has experienced an error
For help, please try the troubleshooting tips in our Help Center.

If the problem persists, or you would like assistance, please contact Netflix technical support and tell them the following error code:

WMPError(C00D11CC)

Windows Media Player is not installed properly. Reinstall the Player.
================

There is nothing in the Netflix help center about this issue, and I have been scouring the net for information.  I do not want to contact netflix support on this because I have read many posts that give the steps that they recommend.

First off I tried the obvious...  Go into Add/Remove Programs and Uninstall (Rollback) Windows Media Player.  Although this says it succeeds, WMP remains installed.  I believe this may be due to the fact when I originally installed my OS (Windows XP) I had done so from an nLite customized install in which I slip-streamed WIMP11.

I also tried installing WMP10, but it says my computer does not meet the requirements, which I take to mean that WMP11 is already installed.

I downloaded the WMP11 installer and installed hoping that it might repair whatever the issue is but it did not.

I tried following the directions in this post: http://forums.techarena.in/media-player/1026294.htm#post3986865
But when I got to step 3 and tried to enter the URL into  WMP's Open URL box...WMP errors out again with the error "Windows Media Player is not installed properly. Reinstall the Player."

This is really driving me nuts.  I don't want reinstall my OS for this issue because computer is running as fast as ever, due to the fact I am an computer geek bent on keeping my machine in perfect operation order. Start Free Trial
