The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Workflow Permissions in Windows Sharepoint Services 3.0

Asked by mach_1o in MOSS-Sharepoint

Hey all,

I'm having an odd problem with a Workflow I set-up using Sharepoint Designer 2007 for use in Microsoft Sharepoint Services 3.0 (we're too cheap to buy MOSS 2007).  The workflow is attached to a Clients list and grabs data from it and from initiation variables (standard text boxes and a drop-down list), then drops all that stuff as a new item in a different list.  It's been working swimmingly, until now.

Here's the problem:
It seems that any users that already have permission to my site can initiate the workflow, no problem (regardless of permission level).  But whenever I add a new user to the site (i.e. - if we hire a new team member), they aren't able to run the workflow.  It says "Access Denied" and doesn't tell me why.  Changing permissions for the user has no effect (even up to Full Control!).  The only way the workflow starts working again is if I delete it completely and recreate it from scratch.

As you can imagine, this is a short-term solution, as it works.  However, with the turnover in this particular department (and with the number of fields I have mapped in the workflow), tearing down and recreating the damn thing every time is somewhat maddening.

Anyone have any helpful hints on just what I'm missing here?  I mucked around in SP Designer trying to find some kind of listing for permissions directly on the Workflow files, but didn't see anything.  Am I on the right track looking for that info?  If so, where the heck is it?!?  As you can see, this is frustrating. ;-)
