The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

How do I get my SSP I'm trying to create to validate and Provision itself?

Asked by LarryVinson in MOSS-Sharepoint, MySQL Server, Operating Systems Network Security

Tags: , ,

I have recently downloaded and installed the Sharepoint Server 2007 Standard trial version.  I am new to SharePoint and have ran into a snag already trying to create an SSP.  I keep getting the following error:  "Provisioning failed: Windows NT user or group 'VENUS\pctech' not found. Check the name again."

Details on setup:  a. I have SharePoint installed on server 2003 (Sp2) Computer name: VENUS
                             b. Have SQL Server 2000 installed on Server 2003 (sp2) CPU name: hadeswsustest
                             c. The database is held on hadeswsustest
                             d. Both are on Domain "college" and both machines connect and see eachother fine
                             e. User account "pctech" is an administrator account on the domain on both servers. (I even made it a local administrator during this troubleshooting)

When trying to set this up  in the SSP service credentials section I've tried using every combination of local user, Domain user, and keep getting the same error.  Then I notice when I go in and edit the properties and try college\pctech for the user it resolves the name on that page fine by clicking the check name.  But when I hit ok, the screen just flashes quick and I am left with the same error "Provisioning failed: Windows NT user or group 'VENUS\pctech' not found. Check the name again."  Why would it keep showing VENUS\pctech not found.  I'm not giving it local user info, I'm putting in the domain.  But even when I make pctech a local admin on VENUS it still doesn't work.

How do I get this SSP to provision so I can move forward?  I'm lost.  Thanks for any helpStart Free Trial
