The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

ID value lost in Calculated Field upon Editing of record

Asked by sdeswart in MOSS-Sharepoint

Hello,

I am using Sharepoint to track projects in a custom list. We would like to have custom project ID's based on the Team the project belongs to, so I've created a formula that adds a short abbreviation for that team before the actual ID. Here is my formula in the ProjectID column:

=IF(Team="Other","OTH-"&ID,IF(Team="Custom Development","CD-"&ID,IF(Team="Oracle","OR-"&ID,IF(Team="IT Ops","OPS-"&ID,"NONE"))))

It works fine immediately after adding this formula, however, once I click on a project and click the OK button, the ID value that WAS after the team's abbreviation vanishes, but the rest of it is still there. For example, if I look at it immediately after I add this new calculated column, one of the ProjectID's is as follows: OTH-25. If I click on the project on that same row, and click OK, I am returned to my Project List view...however, the ProjectID field now displays as follows: OTH-

The only workarounds I could come up with were to either:
1) delete that entire calculated ProjectID column and re-add it.
2) edit that particular calculated column in Settings/List Settings and click OK and it actually re-populates the 'lost' ID value(s)

Does anyone know of another solution for this? I just hate to waste time deleting/re-adding that calculated column several times per day...

I am looking forward to hearing back on this!
