The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Problem with SharePoint web front end when added to network load balancer

Asked by TxAggieJen in MOSS-Sharepoint, Windows 2003 Server

We have 2 web front ends hosting our MOSS 2007 portal.  One of these WFEs (I'll call it WFE2) is causing publishing errors and strange behavior within the portal when it is added to our load balancer.

The load balancer is IBM's Network Dispatcher version 5.1.1.49.  It is software based.

I removed WFE2 from the load balancer.  I added the IP address and site URL to my laptop's host file to test out our portal site on WFE2 via my laptop.  It functions properly.  I log onto the WFE2 server and the site functions properly.

I was told by one of our server managers that the IBM network dispatcher only redirects traffic to the WFE's, it does not handle any return traffic to the client.

The errors we are experiencing include:

1. Unable to add selected web part(s). Image Web Part: An error has occurred - It says the same thing for any web part we try to add to a page.

2. The page you are attempting to save has been modified by another user since you began editing.  Choose one of the following options: preview existing version, save and overwrite existing content, exit without saving.

What we have tried already:

1. Disconnect WFE2 from load balancer.  WFE1 works fine, but we cannot have all of the traffic going to that box alone.

2. Verified IIS settings were correct.

3. Detached WFE2 from the SharePoint farm and reattached it.  This did not work.

4. Rebuilt the WFE2 server, completely wiped the server and reinstalled Windows 2003 server SP2, MOSS 2007 and SP1 for MOSS.  Installed .NET Framework 3.0 SP1.   Verified all of the same software and patches were installed on WFE1.  Reattched WFE2 to the farm successfully.  This did not get rid of the problems.

5. Created another web application to test without affecting our Production portal.  This did not work, the behavior still existed in the new web application.

Microsoft engineers seem to be clueless when we contact support.  We've had 4 engineers from there and none of them have offered good advice or a solution.  If you have any idea what to do here, please let me know.Start Free Trial
