Exported dataviewwebpart not working

I exported a normal dataview webpart and then tried importing it in one of the sites in the same site collection but got the below given message.  

"Unable to display this Web Part. To troubleshoot the problem, open this Web page in a Windows SharePoint Services-compatible HTML editor such as Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer. If the problem persists, contact your Web server administrator."
The exported webpart works well at the root (site collelction level) where the list exists.
Is there any server level setting which allows such functionality because such exported data views are properly working on another independent test server. This is urgent!!
