The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. How to avoid CALs using Sharepoint 3.0 ?

I have recently installed WSS 3.0 on our servers here at work to improve productivity.  I had some questions regarding CAL licensing and whether it is needed.  Please follow up with comments on the following assumptions I am under:

WSS 3.0 does not require CALs to access
SSEE (Embedded Edition of SQL) does not require CALs, and also has no database limit

Now my ultimate purpose is to avoid having to purchase any CALs regarding Sharepoint, because if I have to then I will be deleting Sharepoint and replacing it with an Opensource alternative that will not financially plunder my company.  I would like to have WSS 3.0 running with no database limits and no required CALs for users to access it.  Also, does opening this up externally require terminal CALs?  

If terminal licensing is required for remote access, I will keep it as an intranet site.  I have read that upgrading to full versions of SQL require CALs, as well as upgrading to full versions of Sharepoint Portal.  Like I said I am looking for the cheapest way to set this up, otherwise if you can recommend opensource solutions that work well too that'd be helpful.Start Free Trial
