The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Microsoft MOSS 2007 Missing Default Web Site, Prevent New Applications To Work

Asked by rmalenchek in MOSS-Sharepoint, Microsoft IIS Web Server, Windows 2003 Server

Tags: , ,

The issue that I am having is that when I go to create a new web application, I do not have the option to "Use an existing IIS web site", and "Default Web Site" is not listed in the drop down box, for all of it is grayed out.  But when I create a new IIS web site, after configuring it to work, I cannot access the site at all.

Now, this is what had happened.  Since this is just a test server, we were going through and creating new applications, but instead, we decided to use an existing one, just to try out.  Problem is, afterward, we decided to delete the Default Web Application in MOSS, and ever since that had happened, we cannot get any new applications to work, which leads me to believe that it has something to do with the Default Web Application.

When we looked in the IIS Manager, we noticed that under the Web Sites folder, the Default Web Site was gone, so we re-created a new one.  But still, the new web applications did not work, and we could not access them at all.

So, we uninstalled SharePoint, removed the IIS component in the Add/Remove Components area, restarted the server, reinstalled the IIS component, and reinstalled SharePoint.  Even after doing all of that, it still will not allow us to use an existing IIS web site to grab the Default Web Site, and new applications will still not work.

What else am I missing?  Is there something that I will need to restore in order to get this to work again?

Also, we have a second server that we use to Network Load Balance to, so should I copy the Default Web Site configuration from the IIS Manager from the second server, and restore it on the first?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!Start Free Trial
