The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

New Branch Office:  Best way to connect/network

Hi All Experts,

Hope this queston is in the correct area....

My company is opening a small branch office about 30 miles from out main location.  We have two servers running Win Server 2003 (standard & enterprise).  One is a MS SQL server; the other uses a database called Firebird, an open source version of InterBase (not exactly sure, don't really care for it).  We have met with two consultants.  One recommended we switch our servers to domain controllers (they are currently Peer-to-Peer with 20 to 30 users), and didn't really give us an answer about the actually data pipe between the two locations.  The second sales rep recommended a MPLS connection at 768kbps or 1.5 Kbps not mentioning the domain controller configuration.  At the new location, we need to access the two main applications on each server.  I really don't want to go with terminal services because of the restriction configuration.  I basically would only like remoter users to have access to both apps, and file sharing at the main office.

OK, so:

I was thinking MPLS for the data connection, and maybe a Citrix solution for application sharing?  But I need expert help!

1.      What is my best type of data connection between the two locations, keeping in mind we may need to add a third location in the near future?
2.      How should I share those applications so the remote users seem like they are in the same building?
3.      Security?
4.      Need to install and manage a domain controller?
5.      Can I tap into the data pipe for internet access as needed?
6.      Anything else an expert-exchange wizard can think of.

I really need some accurate advice!!!

Thanks in Advance,

Geoff
