The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

What is the functional difference between mpls and Point to Point network configurations?

Asked by dmbolt in Network Design & Methodology, Virtual Private Networking (VPN), Network Operations

We are looking to switch our network configurations from a point to point to an mpls solution.  The impetus behind this is that the reliability of multiple providers for each of the P2P T1's has been spotty.  At one point we had an outage for 11 days and a lot of finger pointing.  We want to have a setup where there is one throat to choke, and issues are exposed and corrected on the Provider side before it effects us.  Our current configuration is 5 branch locations coming into 1 central location on P2P T1's.  The branch locations currently have a mix of Cisco 1721's, 1760's, and 1841's going into the central locations Cisco 2811.  We are running Telnet sessions, VoIP, and Internet connectivity(through a PIX 515e on a seperate T1 from the central location) over the P2P's.  The provider we are looking at is a regional provider that will have to get loops from other providers.  My questions are:  what are the risks/benefits of a MPLS vs. a P2P network?  What questions should I ask of the provider to assure that their will be no issues with connectivity and that network issues will be addressed proactively?  What failure points are possible within the Providers network that are beyond their control?  I came into this situation with a new position, so the ball was already rolling when I got here.  Any help in making an informed decision would be appreciated.Start Free Trial
