How does a ring topology work?

Asked by M1Bill in Network Management, Network Design & Methodology

Tags: Ring topology

I'm reading a book right now about Network+.  Not sure if I understand what they're saying.  It says that data moves down a one-way path with a ring topology.  And if the topology has a break such as adding or removing a computer it disrupts the entire network.  And it is very difficult to reconfigure without bringing the whole system down.
When it says it disrupts the entire network.  Is it saying that the whole system is down?  Or, is it saying that when it comes to a break it needs to redirect the info?  What else would be helpful to know?Start Free Trial
