I'm deploying Cisco 871 routers behind various Cable and DSL connections at 12 remote locations to establish a WAN for the deployment of customer billing and scheduling software and various other applications through our Citrix server farm. The 871 will connect to a Pix firewall at the central site to establish and maintaing the vpn tunnels.
The success of this implementation and my sanity is dependent upon the realiability of these connections and thier performance.
I'm in search of an inexpensive network connection monitoring and performance threshold notifications system that will enable me to be notified via sms or other methods when a connection reaches a certain threshold of utilization or it's overall throughput performance is inhibited to an extent that can cause inconsistencies in our end-user experience.
A hosted solution is not my first choice due to the inherint security implications but I will certainly evaluate one if it makes sense and I can have the necessary level of assurances in its security approach.
