The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

What is a good application for monitoring ALL network traffic and bandwidth utilization?

Asked by tssekaj in Network Management, Network Analysis Software

I have a Windows Server 2003 Domain with 80 Windows XP client computers, a Server 2003 PDC and a Windows Server 2003 BDC. I am running with a 100mb backbone and four 100mb switches. At certain times throughout the day some of our network database applications are running very slow. At certain times our internet speeds seem slower than usual. I am trying to determine where our bottlenecks are and what our total bandwidth utilization is.

I am looking for a Simple Application to monitor my network bandwidth utilization in a switched environment. I need a program that can run on my Windows XP PC and not only monitor my computers traffic, but ALL network traffic. It must also be able to give me EASY to understand reports and/or charts that will help me to understand my total network bandwidth utilization throughout the day.

Most of the programs I have tried only monitor my local machine and therefore do not show me the big picture of total network utilization. I would like to find a free application or at least an application that offers a fully functional trial version so that I can test it out before purchasing it.

I have tried many different programs over the last day and a half of work and nothing has met my needs. I need to determine if my database applications are creating too much network traffic or if my internet traffic is creating too much network traffic, or if it is a combination of different things a certain points throughout the day that are overwhelming my network bandwidth. I need a program that can answer these kinds of questions without me having to spend hours pouring over the data to try to interpret it. And I need an application that is easy to setup and use.
