Vista 64 Business Random reboots

Asked by seriousnick in Windows Vista

Hi Experts

I have finally got around to installing Vista64 Business on a new rig.
However, its reliability is appalling. I am having random reboots several times a day with no blue screen and nothing helpful in the event viewer other than
"The previous system shutdown at {time} on {date} was unexpected" Event ID 6008.
Reboots occur less often when the PC is dormant.
I have also turned off "Auto restart".

Possibly an issue is the HDD config:
System drive - 3 x WD Raptor 36GB in RAID 0
Data Drive - 2 x 500GB Seagate RAID 1
On a ASUS P5N32-E SLi

I say the HDD config because I had a real nightmare to install straight onto the RAID 0.
Seems I wasn't the only one either (another story).

In addition to the random reboots I have also encoutered one or two BSD's with varying STOP messages (from Graphics issues to memory issues).

I am fairly new to Vista and would like any pointers in how to troubleshoot this problem.

I have reinstalled several times trying different approaches, but if reinstalling again is the way to go then I will try yet again.

Many thanks
