Laptop slows down immensely- Error code: 0x8007041D in Event Viewer

Hello,

I have a HP dv1000 Laptop here that - after 10 days of being nice - slows down immensly, or even hangs up.
Since I have already tried many tricks chkdsk, sfc scannow, biosupdate, driver replacement,  install XP SP3, I found in the Event Viewer the message

Initialization of the COM subsystem failed. Error code: 0x8007041D,
caused by
Automatic LiveUpdate Scheduler


Norton Internet Security (I believe 2007) is installed.

Could that be the cause? And how to fix it?
