dmesg getting stuck on Solaris 8 system

Asked by abalonia in Sun Solaris, Unix Operating Systems

dmesg used to work on this system, but today when I run dmesg, it just displays the date and hangs. I can read /var/adm/messages and /var/log/syslog perfectly fine. This server runs Solaris 8. Today I also found messages about rpc.metad and kcms_server hanging, but after I disabled them in inetd.conf and restarted inetd, everything seems to be fine, yet dmesg still doesn't work. What's going on? I tried dmesg -c, but that didn't work either.Start Free Trial
