Question

Multiple video streams in Microsoft Live Meeting 2007

Asked by: shayno

I am trying to perform a demo using Microsoft Live Meeting 2007 with 3 attendees in the meeting. I am successfully able to log in with all 3 users and get the meeting going but I am not able to show more then one video in the meeting windows at any one time. We do not have and do not intend to have a panoramic camera so using that as an extra display is not possible.

Is Microsoft Live Meeting 2007 capable of displaying two or more video streams at the one time during a meeting?? I have looked around quite a bit and I am not able to see any information for how to do this.

I dont think it's possible with Netmeeting, you may need more sofisticated software such as

So I'll provide this as avenue just to offer ideas.

Hi Merete,

Thanks for your comment. I am not using NetMeeting, rather I am using Live Meeting 2007, a product that falls very close to Office Communications 2007.

It appears that Microsoft cannot answer my question either so this question would be approaching the 'defunct' stage quite quickly.

shayno hi,  is it possible to play this video on your system using a small media player and the others joined the meeting see it?
Windows Meeting Space
A Microsoft Windows Vista feature for collaboration that enables face-to-face collaboration with up to nine Windows Vista users that allows them to share work over a wired network, a wireless local area network (WLAN), or an ad-hoc wireless network. When a user initiates a Windows Meeting Space  session they can then invite others and send a password for joining the session. When others join, they can share files, or see the same view of a program or desktop and collaborate in real time.

from MS.
With Vista Microsoft NetMeeting is a feature of previous versions of Windows that is not available in this version of Windows. Instead, consider using Windows Meeting Space to collaborate with other people, share documents, and make presentations.

I also run OCS 2007 with Live Meeting. I would like to know how to have multiple videos at one time. My past experience with this is that the presenter will always be shown and then the others participating it will switch back and forth. Almost like when the mic is active it will enable video on that person.

I would really like to have a solution for this as well. I was hoping that MS would have a plug-in for it.

You can only display 2 video streams in Live Meeting, the Panoramic view (if you have the hardware), or the standard video window.
Live Meeting will switch the displayed video to the current speaker if you have that option selected, or you can force it to display only one user's video feed from the Video tab.
Apparently this was done to conserve bandwidth and ensure video quality, as multiple video streams would cause lag and horrible frame rates.

The video feed will display the current speaker, or whoever is talking loudest, but there is a bit of a buffer built in so the feed isn't strobing from one feed to the next if there is a discussion going on. If everyone talks at once, it will stay on the current feed until there is a noticeable break in the conversation.

Hope this helped!

Not sure if you are using the Live Meeting service, or hosting internally with OCS... if you are hosting internally, you can look at a couple of products that integrate and provide the 'hollywood squares' view that you may be looking for:  Tendenberg, Polycom.

As stated by SysGenGroup, Live Meeting does not natively support more than one video feed (2 if you are using a panoramic cam... we have a couple of RoundTables, they are quite nice)...  This is to reduce bandwidth utilization... Active speaker detection is used instead to switch between speakers.
