The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

COnverting Groupwise archives to .pst file.

Tags: groupwise, pst, archive, convert
We are working at a Novell 3.12 netowrk using Groupwise 4.12.

We are trying to migrate these users to exchange with the least amount of issues as possible.

In the past we have used a migration tool from Quest called Wingra. The problem is this tool only works for GW 5.5 and above.

We are worried that the GW 4.12 DB isn't stable so there was a suggestion to archive the GW 4.12 mailbox and then find a tool that will convert the file to .pst so that we can then import it directly into Outlook (2k3).

IS there any tool available or instructions on how to convert a GW 4.12 archive to a .pst format?

Thanks

Wowzers.  GW4.12.  I've never worked with that old a version of GroupWise - I started out with GW5.0.

I have no idea.  You may have to upgrade it to GW55 and use your wingra tool...

If you can get ahold of the GroupWise 5.5 client, you may be able to use that client version as an interface with GW4.x, in conjunction with your wingra tool.  There are other tools that use the 5.5 client as an interface, too.

Too bad they're not upgrading to a better, more secure, easier to manage product - GroupWise 7.  But even then, they'd have to go through a multi-phased upgrade to jump that far.  4.x is ancient beyond belief - it was obsoleted in the late 1990's.

Problem is GW 5.5 cannot work with a GW 4.12 backend.

Is there was a way to use the 5.5 client without connecting to the 4.12 backend so that we can use the client to convert the archive to 5.5 or greater?

The 5.5 client will open (and convert to 5x format) any 4.1x archives.

But when we initialize 5.5 it trys to conncet to a mailbox on the 4.1x DB.

How do we get around the issue of 5.5 trying to connect to the GW db.

Good question.  I've been looking for the answer.  You may have to set up a dummy 5.5 domain on a NetWare server that does NDS, just to get around that...

We are trying to avoid creating a seperate environment in order to convert the archive.

So does that mean you do not know of a way to convert the archive without connecting to a GW DB?

Nope.  I don't see that any 3rd-party tool providers have anything, either.
