Question

Sync Groupwise calendar with Nokia N70 mobile

Asked by: LloydW

I have a Nokia N70 and rather than getting a pocket pc or smart phone would like to just sync the calendar on the phone with my Groupwise.

As I don't have control of the server (where I guess I could install Mobile Manager) I am looking for a client that will sync the two. I tried Mobile Manager but it and/or the PC Suite caused a system slowdown of Office apps that forced me to uninstall both.

Any suggestions on the best way to achieve this?

Any way to get the N70 driver for USB/Bluetooth without installing the full Nokia PC Suite (which I think was behind the Office app slowdown)?

  Regards,  Lloyd.

Before we venture on to the GW data transfer, could you installonly the Nokia PC suite on the pc, update it to the latest version and see if it works?

The reason why I ask is this is due to the need to syncronize. You really need the PCS software to do this. Let me know.

Well unfortunately my retest concurs with past findings that the Nokia PCS is the one that clashes with Office/Windows.  When installed it takes about 10s for a double clicked Word doc (or Excel) to open. When uninstalled performance returns to about 1-2s.

Version I'm running is PCS 6.85.14.1 which I believe is the latest. Nokia updater won't run behind our firewall (despite agreeing to all 'unblock' requests). By the tone of your response I may be stuck!

  Thanks,  Lloyd.

This is the first I have heard NPCS causing issues in MS Windows OSs. Having installed it at two locations (+30 users), could it be that another application is clashing with this app. The task manager is the best place to check this - Processes tab / CPU column. Well anyway, this is another question.

The easiest would be to use NPCS but since that is not an option, here goes:

1. Download and install GCALSYNC - http://www.gcalsync.com/

I hope you have a gmail account

2. activate your google calendar

See if you can sync with the google calendar. I will stop here at this stage to see if you like to go on with this. Later on we can see how to export your google calendar to your pc.

or

you can tell me that this is really tedious and we can forget about it.

I'll have to get back to you on this one as packet data features on the phone have been blocked by my employer so I'll have to get those lifted (I was successfully syncing via USB or bluetooth before I had to remove NPCS due to the Office problem).

I have the GMail account now so could see if we could sync the Groupwise to that I guess.

 Regards,  Lloyd.

Okay.

by: LloydWPosted on 2008-04-02 at 04:42:39ID: 21261908

Well I've got packet data released and got to the GCALSYNC download. I downloaded both signed & unsigned versions to the N70 but both bombed out with "Unable to verify certificate" so I seem to be stumped.
This may be a step too far given my problems with PCS. Clearly I'm not meant to sync GW to the N70.
Any other ideas or I'll give up and close the question?

Regards,  Lloyd.

Thanks for your help. I think it just wasn't going to work if I couldn't use the Nokia PCS. Reviews of Task Mgr did not show up the cause of the delay (at least not obvious) but removing the software seemed to be the catalyst. Lloyd.

Hi,
Thanks for the points and grade.
Sorry I was not able to check back on your reply earlier.
In the N70 > Tools folder > App. Manager - is online certificate check activated?
I know that you may not proceed on the baove but just in case you need to install some thing else on the N70.......

Thanks Upul
If the folder is the one on the phone itself - the answer is no. Not on in any of the apps that I can see. Unfortunately GCALSYNC seems to download, but then aborts installation and it certainly isn't in AppManager.
