Print Problems

We just upgraded everyone too GroupWise 6.5.7 and out of 100 computers only one we are having problems with. This computer will load up GroupWise with no problems the user can send and recieve email with no problmes but the user cant print the email. Everytime the user tries to print the email they get this error message:  THIS FILE DOES NOT HAVE A PROGRAM ASSOCIATED WITH IT FOR PERFORMING THIS ACTION. CREATE AN ASSOCIATION IN THE FOLDER OPTIONS CONTROL PANEL. (GW}00002.TMP).

Interesting.

What are they doing when they try to print it - are they using a print button or menu option or are they doing control-p, or what?

The application itself shouldn't need a file association if using the application's print function, so this is a Windows thing, from what I can surmise.  If they're using the HTML view, for example, it's possible that HTML file type isn't associated with a program, so control-p won't find a program to use to print it.

The user goes to file and selects print and also has just click on the printer icon which leads to the same error message. They can print fine for everything else like Word, Excel, etc... I know the printer works good and Windows also seems to work good but it is GroupWise that is giving me the trouble which it could be a setting either on GroupWise or Windows...
Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the GroupWise client?  Was it installed from an automated update or manually?  Was it directly upgraded or was the prior rev uninstalled first?

Something appears to have lost file association, which is not normal.  These symptoms haven't shown up in the knowledgebase since GroupWise 5.5 EP, which was fixed with an update to the software.

Alternatively, check to see if there's a /gwprint folder somewhere on the PC (I don't recall what it would be a subdirectory of or whether that's the exact name) but there's rare cases where print errors occur due to a corrupt file in that folder.

Yes I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the GW client with no luck.  I installed it manually. There is a gwprint folder.

I am thinking the problem could be windows but I am not sure... I will continue to work on the problem and will let you know the outcome.
Does it work if someone else logs into that PC?  If so, maybe it's a bad user profile.  If not, it's a problem with file associations.  If you're adventuresome, you could potentially do an export of a section of the registry from a working W2KSP4 PC and import it on the broken one.  If push comes to shove, of course, there's the usual MCSE "answer" - reinstall Windows.
