Trying to install GroupWise 6.5 on a Novell Netware 6.5 Server

Hello Everyone! I am trying to install GroupWise 6.5 on a Basic Novell Netware 6.5 file server. It is the only server in the tree. It is a brand new basic install. I tried viewing the Groupwise documentation and getting no where. Can someone please help and guide me on what I need to do? I can't even get setup files to launch to install the program. I'm not even sure if I am doing it right?? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Do you have Netware 6.5 patched to SP7 yet?  If not, do it.  Then...what are you having a problem with?  Install files don't launch or...?  Weird sounding to me.

So you are logged in with a machine that has the Novell Client, as an admin, and then you try to run the installer and does it even show up as a task?  Does it error out?

I will patch to SP7 right now it is SP6. Silly question but does groupwise have different install cd's for windows and novell? I'm not sure if I have the wrong disc I am trying to install. This is all brand new to me. Once I have it patched to SP7 and I put the groupwise cd in the drive of the server, what do I have to run to start the install? Also I am logged in straight on the server with the admin account when trying this. Thanks again
Patch to SP7 for sure on Netware.  You'll want patched CD's for GroupWise as well - don't do it with like retail CD's from Novell's site.  Get the latest ones.  We can link them if you need them.

At any rate, the CD doesn't install from the server to the server.  You can put the CD (you'll basically create a SDD or Software Distribution Directory on the server somewhere and that's where you'll run all your installs from.  But yeah, don't expect to put the CD in the server and do it all from there.  That's not what you want to do.

That might be the problem you're running into.  Make sure you just use the CD's at the workstation you are doing everything from, and not the server itself.  You can do everything, start to finish on a standard PC.
When I create the SDD on the server, what directories on the CD do I need to copy over to it or do I need to copy the contents of the whole CD? Also once it is copied over what file do I point to and run to start the appropriate install? Thanks
What documentation did you say you are using?  Because all of this is really explained quite well right here:

http://www.novell.com/documentation/gw65/index.html

In particular...here's where you would be right now:
http://www.novell.com/documentation/gw65/gw65_install/data/a4bblzn.html#a4bblzn

You can copy everything over to the SDD if you plan on running the entire system on one server, but that's only what I'm assuming you're going to do.

When you create the SDD, it's part of the install, so you can select everything - it's not a manual copy process if you don't want it to be.

You can run setup right from the root of the SDD folder, i.e., VOL1:GW65SDD

That gives you the screens you'll see on the next page of the documentation if you want to keep in consistent.  Else you can just run install.exe from the AGENTS folder which would be in (for example) VOL1:GW65SDD\Agents

But the documentation will tell you the proper order for installing and all that jazz.
Sweet thanks I was looking at the documentation from a groupwise 6.5 cd and it didn't really help at all. Also you mentioned sending a link to download the latest patched groupwise cd's can you send me a link to that? Thanks again for everything
I s'pose it's not on Novell's site.  I make my own, but haven't looked on Novell's site.  They do it for Netware but I'm not sure about GroupWise.  I can provide you with instructions on how to make this happen so you don't have to service pack it again, but I won't be able to post back for a little while here.

If someone else wants to explain this process, have at it.  Else, I'll post back later as soon as I am able with instructions on how to install the GW6.5 stuff with the latest SP.
Thanks!
