We do this as well. The BB users all utilize GWIA to obtain their messages to their BB. This does not give them any dangerous access to anything else.
I would recommend using your existing GWIA.
If you are still opposed to that, take a look at the Black Berry Enterprise Server for Groupwise. I have it running very well for a law office where all the lawyers have BB's. This also permits synchronization of calendars, tasks, etc. When I looked at it, Blakberry was offering the first 5-user license as a free download. It will have to be installed to a Windows server.

You must have outside access to your "internal" GWIA otherwise you would not be able to send/recv email. What is the justification to having another GWIA in the DMZ? We have many POP accounts (outlook clients, etc) pointing to our primary GWIA. These users access thier mailboxes via GW clients, and also via POP accounts.
You can set up the POP accounts to "purge after" sending, or leave the email on the server for subsequent GW access.
