There may be another way. The user should have received a prompt about moving the archive contents of archive1 to the new location (call it archive2) when he attempted to configure archive2. If he clicked No, then the contents of archive1 remain in the original location and all new archive stuff will end up in archive2 location...giving you the two IDX, etc.
Try changing back to location 1 by going to Tools | Options| Environment | File Locations and changing the Archive directory to the location1. It should prompt you to move the files from two, I believe.
If not, you may have to un-archive what is in the smaller location and then re-archive to a single location.
There is a third-party utility called Archive-2-Go...do a google on it as it may help.

you have to open one archive, un-archive it to the online/caching mailbox, connect the other archive, and then re-archive the previously un-archived messages.
