The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Sametime Meeting center will not launch browser when you choose "Attend a Meeting" from Sametime Connect

Tags: launch, meeting, browser
Hello Experts....
Some clients using Sametime in our company will click on "Meeting > Attend a Meeting" in the Sametime Connect client, and nothing wil happen.  The browser will not launch to take them to the login page. However, they can click a link on our portal that will launch a web page that lets them log in and attend a meeting.  Other users are not having this problem.  This has worked for these users before, it just stopped working recently.

Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance....

1) What has changed ?

2) What browsers are involved ?

3) have you checked to make sure that the site/ servers are trusted ?

4) have you checked that the ActiveX component etc arte installed and working ?

I hope this helps !

Sysexpert... I have checked with the user and asked them to show me what happens... They click "Attend a meeting" and the browser does not launch.  Upoin further investigation, it turns out that this is a machine with both IE and Netscape installed on it..  Netscape has been chosen as the default browser because they need it for the work they are doing.

If i change the default back to IE, it works fine.  Now I am trying to figure out how to get the meeting room to work with Netscape....

Is there any way to tell Windows XP to use Netscape as the default browser for everything EXCEPT that meeting room that is launched???

Unfortunately, I do not think this is possible.

I would try to use Firefox instead, but it still may not work.

Agree with SysExpert.  This is not possible.

I would probably try something simple like:

Set Netscape as the default browser
Set a link on the desktop for IE if it is not already there
Set the "meeting" page as the default startup page in IE

That should do the trick.

To be more precise:

1) Set IE as default browser
2) Click on "Meeting > Attend a Meeting" in the Sametime Connect client
3) Set THIS page as the default startup page for IE
4) Uncheck (check for default browser) in IE
5) Open Netscape as reset as default browser
6) Close all windows - reboot - Open IE

What happens?

One additional question:  are you accessing http or https?

01.17.2008 at 09:41AM PST, ID: 20683460
It looks like it is hardcoded into Sametime to launch the default browser when you click "Attend a Meeting"  so unless IBM changes their code, the user will just have to do it the long way...

Something I don't understand:  why do you split points with someone who just agrees with the correct solution?  Did I miss something?

01.17.2008 at 10:15AM PST, ID: 20683782
huntersvcs,

I agree  :)

If you want to object to the split and get a Moderator to reassign points, I have no problem with that.

Jason,
don't grudge you the points.  You took time into looking into the question and tried (like all of us) to help the user out.  It just seemed strange to me that:

a) The first "accepted" answer did not resolve the problem.
b) The user determined that the problem was source-generated and could not be resolved to his satisfaction, but did not ask for a refund of points.
c) Splitting with an "agree" answer that didn't really solve the problem in the first place.

Jason, you've been here a while (like I have) and we've both seen novice mistakes being made all the time.  We all learn from our mistakes.  The user stated, "This has worked for these users before, it just stopped working recently. "  I suspect the programmer made a mistake when modifying his code . . . Oh well?!  Maybe this will help the user, in the future, to attempt to follow EE guidelines.  All any of  us want to do is help - the points are nice recognition of our efforts, but the world won't come to an end if we're lost in the shuffle.

Have a great 2008 !!!

Rick

huntersvcs .
Just wanted to let you know... I am new to this place, and when I finally accepted the fact that the question did not have a solution, I did not know how to proceed. I sent a message to a Community Advisor asking what the proper etiquette was in this situation and was told by an advisor:  "Award points to the person or persons who told you it isn't possible."

I am trying to learn how to fit in as someone who others want to help, instead of like some of the folks I've seen around here who get a question answered and never come back to the message thread to let us know it worked and assign points....

I hope I've answered why I assigned points rather than asking for a refund...
Thanks
