We have an application on lotus notes which we now plan to standardise and sell as a packaged product. We need to protect the design of this for obvious reasons.
One way to prevent a customer from getting access to the source code/design of a lotus application is to create a design template at our end, and update the design after every change manually, either in person or by giving the client the template on a CD. (I am assuming here that hiding the design will prevent any sort of access to view or modify the design at client end -- please correct me if i am wrong)
Updating design in person, over a period of time, can become quite cumbersome and unfeasible for small changes.
Given the scenario and problem, I have the following queries --
(1) Can sending a locally encrypted design template to the customer, compromise the security of the template.? Will they be able to open or copy the design from the template. Say create a database from that template -- in which case they will be able to see the design in the new db.
(2) What access level should be there on the template to enable the client's server to refresh the design from this template.
(3) Is there any other solution for this? Something like an .exe which the client can run and the design gets refreshed without access to the code.
(4) Other than using the hide design option, is there a way of protecting the code.
Any help will be sincerely appreciated
