Since switching to a new PC with Notes R8 & Office 2007, Notes/fx (Notes Field Exchange) no longer working as it used to with an embedded Excel 2003 spreadsheet

Tags: IBM Lotus / Microsoft, Lotus Notes / Microsoft Office, Lotus Notes R8 / Microsoft Office 2007, Notes/fx (Notes Field Exchange) not working since upgrading Office & Notes
One of our custom Notes databases uses an Excel 2003 spreadsheet embedded in a form. On creating documents using this form, Excel opens up the spreadsheet for us to edit outside of Notes, & on closing, various values form the spreadsheet are saved back to the Notes document, which has various fields with names corresponding to exported properties in the spreadsheet file. So using Notes/fx (Notes Field Exchange), these values are available within the Notes database, & we use them to count & total various things in Views etc.

My colleague & I have recently switched over to new PCs, & we've installed Lotus Notes R8 & Microsoft Office 2007. When using our new machines, Notes R8 happily invokes Excel 2007 for us to edit the embedded spreadsheet, & all seems fine until you save & close the spreadsheet, as none of the values are updated in the Notes document. If we use our old machine to edit one, even one created on the new machine, it all still works perfectly, so there's no 'permanent damage' to the documents or files concerned, but with the new software, it doesn't work.

My first problem is not even knowing whether it is Notes R8 or Office 2007 which is causing the issue, & of course my closely followed second problem is not knowing how to resolve it. Can anyone shed any light on this for me?

I've started with 333 points for someone to name the culprit (Notes or Office), but am happy to double these if anyone can resolve the issue too.

Thanks in advance.

The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Anyone know why Office 2007 doesn't support Field Exchange? Or even if it might in the future? Has anyone tried to code around this issue using LotusScript?
