The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

Unable to send mail

Theres been a tough issue at work that we have been unable to correct as of yet. The scenario is as follows:

The users have the ability to browse, with no problems. Can recieve eMail just fine in the eMail program of their choice (we support OE and NS). The users just can NOT send ANY emails out. The error was something like "unable to send to receipent, check e-mail address and try again". Now this happens even when attempting to send to themselves. It affects both NS and OE if they have both on system.

Mainly seems to be win95/98/ME
Using Outlook Express or Netscape for mail

Some of the things already tried:

If using OE, recreate the mail account.
If using NS, recreate the profile.
Reinstalled TCPIP in case the stack was bad.

Now we know its not an issue at the servers, because we set up the mail client at our call center and have absolutely NO issues sending mail out from here. And there appears to be no "mail rules" set up in either programs on the users end. As far as we know this only affects dial-up users, but we dont believe the connection type is an issue. The frequency of this specific issue has recently become great, and we cant pin-point the cause.

An extensive searh of the Microsoft KB and Netscape help sites have rendered no solutions. We could be missing something, or it could be a .dll file bad, possibly needing a reg hack, whatever. We basically have tried everything we know of, short of reinstalling the clients. Looking for some help and suggests...
