Browse All TopicsWe have never seen anything like this. Let me try and explain all of the details:
The problem is with Outlook 2002 SP2
1.) When I open Outlook to download my mail from our mail provider (HostDepot.com), it gives me the following errors:
a.) Task 'mail.hostdepot.com - Sending and Recieving' reported error (0x80040154): 'Unknown Error 0x80040154'
b.) this error is probably from the previous error and it's just a timeout error:
Task 'mail.nc.rr.com - Sending and Recieving' reported error (0x8004210A): 'The operation timed out waiting for a response from the recieving (POP) server. If you continue to recieve this message, contact your admin etc. etc. etc.
2.) I am 1000% sure that all of my email settings are correct, the incoming and outgoing servers are correct, the login/pw is correct, it's all there.
3.) Outlook worked on Friday, today is Monday, and it's not working. The only difference between then and now was Internet Explorer was uninstalled and reinstalled. It's now Internet Explorer 6.0 SP 1.
4.) I have tested the account on all other machines on the network and it logs in fine. It MUST be software related, and it MUST be this machine only.
5.) I have uninstalled Outlook and then reinstalled. No luck. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the entire Office package. No luck. I have all updated patches and fixes for my Operating System (Windows 2000) and all updated patches and fixes for Office XP (there weren't any at this time)
6.) When I go to Tools > Email Accounts and test my account settings, it establishes a network connection and then the attempt to find outgoing and incoming servers is already at status "CANCELLED". Normally when you test your settings each test takes a few seconds to do, this one appears to be waiting for me when I click the test button. Why would it say CANCELLED and not something like ERRORS or Incomplete.
I've searched for this error string on the web, but all I can seem to find are others with the same problem and no real solutions. Your ideas and suggestions are very much welcomed, this is a dire emergency. Thanks a lot in advance

I have a simular problem but I do not normally get an error message. I have outlook 98 with ie6 sp1 which I belive to be the cause of the problem. Would you mind telling me what your solution was as it could help me to solve my problem. I have been checking, uninstalling,re-installing
sure thing. i dont care about the points...
here's 2 links with good instructions on what to do:
http://support.microsoft.c
http://support.microsoft.c
the first link supposedly is directed more towards outlook98, but i think the second link applies to most versions of outlook. hell they may be the exact same instructions. i dont have time to compare. but they will tell you exactly what i did.
note: after i registered that dll file and verified i had the right version of inetcomm.dll, i redownloaded and reinstalled ie6sp1 and it worked. good luck
Hi to All,
Well I solved my problem which turned out to be different to the one I thought it was, just for the record all I did was change the ip address. It turns out that the other IT guy had a corrupt file which somehow was blocking the ip address. Hopefully this will assist someone else in the future.
Regards
Ron Galer
I had this same problem along with a MSOE.dll error for Outlook Express. It was a Windows 98 machine running IE 6.0, OE 6 & Outlook 2K2. To resolve the issue, I just uninstalled OE 6 from the Add/Remove programs. The system reverted back to OE 5 & it seemed to work.
I do have to say that prior to this, I did the "regsvr32 outlmime.dll" steps, so it could have been a combination of both.

You wouldn't happen to have antivirus software installed that could be causing this, would you? I have seen virus software cause mail server problems quite often.
Have you checked for viruses? Take a look at security.norton.com or housecall.antivirus.com for an updated scan.
