If you send to a global dist list it will keep the dist name but the user can still double click on the name to see who is in this dist list now ( it doesnt keep a copy of the list as it was when the message was sent, this can be a killer or usefull)
So if you want to hide the names you must use the bcc method ( this will have better tracing ) if you just want it to look pretty then setup a global dist list not a personal one.

You are not going to like this answer, but a personal distribution list is always expanded by the Outlook client at the time of sending because the server will have no clue who is inside a client side distribution list. The only time a distribution list is not expanded by default is when the list is managed by a Microsoft Exchange server.
