In Outlook, I want to export all contacts from a Contacts public folder with more than 3000 records to an mdb, xls, txt file. It's essential that I don't loose the categories a contact belongs to. I have to transfer the contact data to another firm for import into our new system.
I can not export a public folder using my Outlook XP. I can export a personal folder using file, import/export, export to a file. But after the export is succesfully, it seems the category isn't exported. That way I can't retrieve the categorie of a contact, which is important.
In a new Access database I linked a table to the public folder containing the contact records. But again, the categorie isn't in this database.
Could anyone help me in trying to export contacts, including the categorie?

1. copy the contacts to a folder in your mailbox or a PST file. t to a File->Excel, add a file name \Microsoft \Office\10 .0\Outlook \Categorie s which has your category list
2. File->Import&Export->Expor
3. at the last screen before clicking "Finish" instead click on "Map Custom Fields"
4. on the right side of the screen see if Categories is mapped, if not drag that from the left to the right side of the screen
5. click OK then FINISH
6. export the reg key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software
You can open the Excel file to verify the category information was exported.
