Greetings, lrmoore !

Pull down the View menu and choose Folder List. Uncheck the Archive Folder.

You can turn off the archive feature of Outlook.

1.. start Outlook and navigate to Tools \ Options \ Other
  2.. click on AutoArchive
3.. in the window that opens you can change several aspects of how
AutoArchive behaves, or even turn it off.
4.. make and save any changes

You can not delete the archive file while Outlook is running.  You will need
to exit Outlook first and then delete the file.  Also, on the Tools \
Options \ Mail Setup page, under Data Files., you can change the location of
the archive file.

Best wishes!

Thanks, war1, but I've already un-checked all the auto-archive options and I have all of my archives on a server.

There's only one Archive folder in the folder list that just won't go away, "Close Archive folder" still results in the above error. Change archive options, close Outlook, re-open outlook and no matter what, I just can't get this folder to go away. There's nothing in it, either..

Hi lrmoore,

Can you archive an email that you can afford to lose? Try archiving one email and the close the Archive folder as you did before.

Cheers,
frankco

Yes, I can archive all the emails that I want and that opens up a new Archives Folder and then I can close this new Archive Folder by right-clicking and "close Archive Folders" - and it goes away.
Yet it is this one pesky one I just can't get rid of..

Hi Irmoore,

Perhaps you have to reset the folders in Outlook.

Go to a command prompt, or click Start ~ Run, and enter the following:

    Outlook /resetfolders

You may have to add the path to Outlook in the Run command.

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11\Outlook.exe /resetfolders

Cheers,
frankco

Sad . . . looked promising, but even this didn't help. The pesky Archive Folder is still there and the same error pops up when trying to close it...
Thanks for trying!

Hi Irmoore,

Okay, it's time to create a new profile.

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click the Mail icon.
3. In the Mail Setup dialog box, click Show Profiles.

If you want to be able to select a specific profile each time you start Outlook, click the General tab, click Prompt for a profile to be used, and then click Add.
4. In the New Profile dialog box, under Profile Name, type a descriptive name for the new profile, and then click OK.
5. In the E-mail Accounts dialog box, select Add a new e-mail account in the e-mail options, and then click Next.
6. Click the type of server that your e-mail account works with, and then click Next.
7. Complete all of the required fields, including those that are on the tabs that appear after you click More Settings.
8. When you finish providing the required information, click Finish.

Also, rename the outlook.OST file to outlook.old and restart Outlook. The outlook.ost file is located in Documents and Settings ~ Local Settings ~ Application Data ~ Microsoft ~ Outlook.

Good luck,
frankco

I bit the bullet and just created a new profile and now it's gone.

Thanks, all!

by: lrmoorePosted on 2006-08-06 at 07:00:12ID: 17258877

I kept the .OST file because I didn't want to loose anything or have to sync with the server again, and I'm happy.

I found the suggestion to create a new profile using Google and another web site, but Franko still had the key, I just didn't wait long enough..
Thanks!
