I suggest trying to repair the *.pst file BEFORE archiving it by splitting or compressing it.
Assuming that is successful, and Outlook can use the file again, I would:
1. Archive it safely
2. Temprarily rename the current filename.pst file to eg. filename_pst.bak
3. Join the pieces of the split *.pst file or unpack the compressed one
4. Test to ensure that it will restore properly.
In other words, test its integrity and don't assume that your backup is going to restore successfully.
You can always then delete the restored *.pst file and rename your current one back again.
Just make sure Outlook is not running when you do this.
I mentioned in your other question that you should ensure that your problem *.pst file is not Read-Only.
Although this is not directly pertinent to your problem, because your *.pst file is 2GB and too large just to burn to CD without being split, there may be other files that you are burning to CD as backups. Any file that needs to be written to by the program eg. many programs' *.INI files, cannot be restored from the Read-Only medium of a CD and used by the program without first removing the Read-Only attribute. If you burn a WinZip (*.zip) or WinRAR (*.rar or *.zip) file to a CD, the CONTENTS retain their original attribues ie. when unzipped they will not be read-only. Only the zip or rar file will be read-only if copied to the hard drive.
Avoid any file splitting program that opens in DOS window. Although many are file (I use a couple of reliable ones that do this), you cannot guarantee that the long file names will not be converted to DOS short file names. The one suggested by war1 looks excellent, although everyone has their own personal favourites.
