I have two IMAP accounts in Outlook 2003 for my two AOL e-mail addresses. This has worked fine for the past couple of years.
But a couple of weeks ago, one (not both) of these IMAP accounts in Outlook has started to behave strangely. There were two symptoms that started at the same time (the first of which I found a workaround for):
Symptom 1) As soon as I would click on a new message, it would be marked as deleted (strikethrough). (Fortunately, it then let me right-click on each message and select "Undelete.") Interestingly, this problem happens only with new messages, not with previously received messages.
At first I thought this problem must be due to the checkbox called "Mark items as read when viewed in the Reading Pane." However, I had already had that box unchecked. I temporarily got rid of this problem by turning off my Reading Pane (although I do miss it).
Symptom 2) Outlook added a "Junk Mail" folder for that same AOL IMAP account but not for the other. This new folder also exists in my list of custom folders when I view my AOL mail online.
This "Junk Mail" folder unfortunately appears to contain just a COPY of the suspected junk messages, rather than MOVING them from the Inbox folder like it does in a regular .pst for an Outlook POP3 mailbox). I'm guessing that this extra folder is probably harmless because I can just ignore it and empty out the contents every month or so, but it would be nice to get rid of it, especially because it's probably related to Symptom #1 above.
I was going to ask AOL about these two problems, but I am no longer a paying subscriber. So, since I am a paid subscriber to Experts Exchange, I thought I would ask the question here instead. Thanks in advance for your input.
