The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Apparently corrupt Outlook Install

Asked by Rance_Hall in Outlook Groupware Software

This problem started with a Outlook user reporting that outlook 2007 kept crashing and showing the "Outlook did not start correctly last time, do you want to run in safe mode?" question.  User reported that if you try to say "NO" Outlook just freezes with half a screen drawn, and stops.

The ONLY way out of this is to ctrl-alt-del and bring up the task manager and stop the application outlook, and then after it quits, stop the outlook TASK (as it DID NOT stop when the app stoped)

Then the next boot outlook offers to start in safe mode, you say yes, and all is well with the world, almost.

I really needed to fix this because starting outlook twice (the first one sacrificially) just to read email is overkill, and messy, so I set out to fix this.

On a related question on this forum I learned that sometimes outlook needs a new profile and when it gets one that profile creation process can fix the existing profile so that you stop getting nagged about incomplete startups.

After a complete email backup, I started trying the following:

delete and recreate email profile from email control panel.

repair outlook from outlook add/remove programs link, uninstall outlook and reinstall.

So far, no dice.

for one user Outlook is blasted.

even without a profile Outlook still crashes.

---- Notes ------

By outlook crashing I mean that the Outlook display starts to load, it gets about half way setup and then dies a horrible death.

Incomplete icons across the top, etc.

The ONLY way out of this crash is ctrl-alt-del

End outlook program, and then end the outlook task as it does not stop when app stops.
