Newly creaed folders not automatically included in Auto Archive

I have come across a problem where by I have auto archive setup with default settings and I have clicked on the 'Apply these settings to all folder now' button in the Auto Archive configuration box.

However, if I now create a new folder and check its archive settings under the properties of the folder, get this. It has 'Do not archive items in this folder' selected as default.
What should be selected is the second option which states, 'Archive items in this folder using the default settings'

So here I am thinking that all my folders will be auto archived including the newly created ones but this appears not to be the case. Do I have to go back and apply the Auto Archive settings everytime I create a new folder or is there a way of getting the auto archive policy to included into every newly created folder?

You help is greatly appreciated.
