Outlook client intermittantly sends one email multiple times

Hi,

We have one outlook 2003 user who has been having this issue for around 1 week. He sends an email to someone (it appears to be either external or internal) and that recipient receives 3 copies of the email.
These emails do not have attachments. AV is uptodate.
I have made a new profile fo the user, and am waiting for him to let me know if that fixes it. not confident yet that it will. He has just let me know that now when he receives a new email, the outlook email notification popup alerts him twice...although only one new email has come in.
