MS Outlook 2003 hangs at 50%

I am using Sony Vaio SZ79 with windows vista business running on it and MS outlook 2003 for emails. Outlook 2003 just keeps hanging up at about 50%. Then the next time it works and then it may hang the next time email is checked. Have talked to a few others and they to are starting to have the same problem. However if I use Outlook Express there are no problems.
