the life checks folder is set to display both read and unread - did you look at the attachment?

Folder doesn't show unread messages even though subfolder has unread messages
I have a folder in my Inbox for Receipts.
One of the sub-folders has an unread message --> Life Checks (1)
But when I collapse it to just Receipts, it doesn't show one unread message - seems like it does this in some of my other sub-folders, although there's more than one case where it works as expected and more than one case where it doesn't work.
What's the expected result?

I see what's happening now but for some reason didn't recognize it.
What I want to happen is that un-read messages in a folder "roll-up" to the parent sub-folder. That way if everything is collapsed, you can just look at the top-level folder and see "oh-I have 10 unread messages". Then you open the sub-folder and see sub-folder A has 4 un-read messages and sub-folder B has 6 un-read messages, like this

By having something like this, I could have unlimited sub-folders and collapse to a pretty high level. Then the messages go to their appropriate folder but all I have to do is look at the top level folder to know that a message comes in.
This is a simple roll-up function such as in Microsoft Project
This is also my only hope of getting organized - my paper filing system looks like the local landfill . . .
Ok, I figured out how best to do it.
I have about 20 subfolders underneath "Inbox", each with a serious of cascading subfolders.
I would set up my rules to go to the specific folder, even if it was 10 levels down. But that caused my dilemma, that is, un-read message counts don't "roll-up" to the parent levels.
So, I've come up with this:
- Set rules for my messages to come into 1 of my 20 top-level sub-folders underneath "Inbox".
- This provides a visual of the count of un-read messages in each of the 20 top-level sub-folders
- By providing this visual, I can (obviously) see where the messages are, so when I choose to, I read them
- Then, after reading, I'll file them in the appropriate (deep) sub-folder.
This is how I keep up with e-mail and organize it.

Check the view on the life checks folder and see if it is set to only display read items. You could also use the find to look for unread messages to show where it is located and which message it is.
