The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

OL2k3: Unable to open your default e-mail folders. The information store could not be opened.

Asked by DrewML in Outlook Groupware Software, Exchange Email Server

Tags: , , ,

I work for a small business.

My computer runs Windows Vista Business SP1.

I have Office Outlook 2003 SP3 on my computer.

My email server is Exchange 2003.

Exchange 2003 runs on Windows Server 2003 SR2 (not SBS).  This server is a domain controller for our network.

When I open Outlook, I get this error: "Unable to open your default e-mail folders.  The information store could not be opened. "

None of my co-workers get this error, Outlook works fine for them.

Outlook used to work fine for me.

Here is what happened:  One day, I wanted to open several old PST files from before we migrated to Exchange (we were POP3 before).  I wanted to create a separate mail profile for each PST so I could switch between them without cluttering up my own Mailbox.  When I was done with these PST files, I started to delete their mail profiles one by one.  While I was doing this, I accidentally deleted my own mail profile.  Not a problem, I thought.  I recreated my mail profile no problem, but now I get the above error whenever I try to open Outlook.

I can access OWA.

I can set up my email account in Outlook on other computers.

I have tried deleting and recreating my mail profile (Control Panel > Mail) on my computer.

I have tried repairing Office 2003.

I have tried reinstalling Office 2003.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Office 2003.

Please tell me how to fix my problem. Start Free Trial
