Client can't see new emails

SBS 2003 + Exchange Server 2003: One of my clients has a problem that he can't see new emails. Against his Inbox has a (5) to indicate that there are 5 new emails in there. But these new emails are not visible. I got him to delete his .OST file and let it re-synchronise, but he still has the same problem. We also have a Terminal Server where he also has Outlook on his desktop. This gives the same problem. I got him to look at his OWA Inbox and hey presto the 5 new emails are visible in there. I sent a test message to him. Again this was not visible in his Outlook Inboxes although the bracketed number at the side of the Inbox indicated that it was there. And once again it was visible in OWA.
