How to avoid automatic Outlook reconfiguration ?

Asked by nxbp in Outlook Groupware Software, Microsoft Windows Operating Systems

We created an automatic installation of Outlook 2003 through .MSI and .MST and ensured that an automatic configuration would take place when a user first logs in (identification of the username, server, etc.) including the creation of the associated profile.
That works great. A little too much, in fact.
Aside from this, we are migrating a few thousand PCs from our old "master" to the new one. This implies a full reinstallation of the OS and software. But in this case, we have a process to recover the user profile from the old OS (using USMT). So this process will save the Outlook profile and put it on the new computer.
Our problem is that when the user first logs on, the recovered profile si renamed and a new blank one is created. Somewhere, somehow, Outlook detects it's the first time it's being launched and creates a new profile.
We tried to copy what we identified as outlook profile-oriented in the registry, but to no avail.
