OST File too big

Asked by DrDamnit in Outlook Groupware Software, Exchange Email Server

I am getting an error when I try to open an appointment:

"Cannot open this item. The file C:\User\myuser\appdata\local\microsoft\outlook\outlook.ost has reached its maximum size. To reduce the amount of data in this file, select some items that you no longer need, and then permanently delete them bypressing SHIFT+DELETE. You could also consider switching to Unicode mode and using the new offline folder file introduced with Outlook 2003 that provides greater capacity for storing items and folders."

I am using Outlook 2007 on Vista 64-bit Business Edition, and the server is Exchange 2007.

I followed the instructions in this KB article (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/832925), but those registry entries were not present (nor were the keys!) in my system.
