The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Outlook 2003 randomly prompts for password, request coming from domain controller

Asked by lukeca in Outlook Groupware Software, Exchange Email Server

Hi Experts,

We have one user that has been using Outlook 2003 with Exchange 2003 with no issues for quite a long time.  Due to security concerns this user had Outlook set to prompt for a password when opening it.  We recently implemented Live Communication server and we are using Microsoft Communicator for the client.  We found that when Outlook was set to prompt for a password it would prevent Communicator from signing in until the password was provided.  We reconfigured this user's outlook to no longer prompt for a password and we now just have the workstation set to lock itself after 10 minutes.  The problem is that now this user will go to use her Outlook, even if the the computer has not been locked and as soon as she does something that requests information from the server (like send an e-mail) Outlook will prompt for a password.  The top of the dialog box shows that the password prompt is coming from our domain controller.  Exchange is running on a seperate member server.

We reviewed the error log and found a message regarding ldap, and found this microsoft article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/885887 , we requested the hotfix and the messages in the system log did go away, however Outlook still randomly prompts for a password.  We also tried unjoining and rejoining the machine to the domain.

Does anyone have any ideas on what could be causing this issue?  Thank you very much.Start Free Trial
